Grooming isn’t just about looks. Regular brushing, coat checks and basic grooming can prevent matting and some skin issues and allow early identification of lumps, parasites and skin conditions. Yet for many pets, particularly anxious ones, elderly pets, or those with health conditions, a traditional groom is too stressful.
Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services offers at-home welfare grooming in Telford and across Shropshire. The focus is always on your pet’s health and comfort first, carried out by a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse with a calm and experienced approach.

Why choose a Vet Nurse for grooming?
A welfare grooming session with me is also a full hands-on health check. While I brush, trim and clip, I’m simultaneously checking coat and skin condition, feeling for lumps and bumps, checking ear and eye health, assessing nail and pad condition, and noting any changes from the previous visit.
I’ve handled patients with a range of health conditions and behaviours in a clinical setting, which means I know how to groom a nervous or elderly pet safely and without causing additional stress. You’ll also get honest feedback on anything I find that might warrant a vet visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often does my dog need grooming?
This depends entirely on coat type. Short-coated breeds may only need brushing monthly and occasional bathing. Double-coated breeds benefit from weekly brushing, especially during moulting season. Longer or curlier coats often need brushing every few days and professional grooming every 4-8 weeks to prevent matting. I can advise on the right routine for your dog.
What happens if my dog’s coat is matted?
Mild matting can often be worked through carefully with the right tools and detangling spray. Severe matting that is close to the skin, causing pain, or restricting movement should be clipped rather than brushed out. Pulling at tight mats is painful and can damage the skin. I’ll always be honest about what’s achievable safely at home, sometimes several sessions are required as grooming can be tiring for the pet.
Do you groom cats?
Yes. Cats vary enormously in how much they tolerate grooming. Long-haired cats in particular benefit from regular brushing to prevent matting, and many cats don’t groom themselves as effectively as they age. I use calm, gentle handling and work entirely at your cat’s pace. I won’t attempt to groom a highly distressed cat, safety always comes first for both the cat and myself.
Can grooming help me spot health problems early?
Yes, this is one of the biggest benefits of regular, professional grooming. During a session, I’ll check the skin for lumps, redness, rashes, parasites, or unusual changes; check ears for signs of infection; inspect eyes for discharge or cloudiness; assess nail and pad health; and note any changes in coat quality that might indicate nutritional or health issues. Catching things early almost always leads to better outcomes.
