Dog Walking & Canicross Services

Your dog deserves a walk with someone who truly understands them, their health, their behaviour and their wellbeing. Dog walking is one of the most important parts of a dog’s day, for physical health, mental stimulation, and emotional wellbeing. But not all dog walkers are equal. Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services offers professional dog walking across Telford and the surrounding Shropshire villages, carried out by a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse who monitors your dog throughout and knows the difference between a healthy dog who’s tired and one who needs attention.

I also offer canicross, the sport of running with your dog using a specialist harness and waist belt. It’s a brilliant outlet for high-energy breeds and dogs who need more than a standard walk can offer. I’m passionate about canicross and love introducing dogs (and their owners!) to the sport.

Why choose a Vet Nurse for dog walking & canicross?

On every walk, I’m not just exercising your dog, I’m monitoring them. It their gait normal? Are they reluctant on one leg? Do they seem more breathless than usual? Is there a lump that wasn’t there last week? These are the things a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse notices that a standard dog walker might not.

My clinical background also means I know which breeds and individuals need modified exercise, short-nosed breeds in the heat, dogs with heart conditions, arthritic dogs who need steady rather than intense activity.

For canicross, I conduct a thorough pre-assessment to ensure your dog is physically fit before we run together.

From £20

What’s included?

Every dog walk (or canicross session) includes:

  • Collection from and return to your home if required
  • Solo walks (only dogs from the same household will be walked together)
  • Routes adapted to age, breed, fitness and weather
  • Post-walk welfare check
  • Fresh water
  • Paw cleaning before returning indoors
  • Photo update after every walk
  • Canicross harness fitting & suitability assessment
  • Progressive distance-building for canicross runs

Please note: I have a range of durations depending on what is suitable for your pet. Canicross is not suitable for all dogs. Puppies under 12-18 months, brachycephalic breeds, and dogs with joint conditions may not be suitable. A pre-assessment is required before the first canicross run.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How many dogs do you walk at once?

I primarily offer solo walks and will only walk dogs from the same household together. Solo walks are ideal for dogs who are anxious, reactive or need specific attention.

  2. What is canicross and is it right for my dog?

Canicross is a sport where your dog runs in front of you, attached via a bungee line to a waist belt. The dog pulls slightly, setting the pace. It provides intense physical exercise, builds confidence, strengthens the dog-owner bond, and offers brilliant mental stimulation.
Any breed can canicross, but it’s particularly great for energetic breeds or those that need a job to do.
Dogs need to be fully physically mature (typically 12-18 months old) and I’ll carry out a full suitability assessment before starting canicross with your dog.

  3. My dog pulls badly on the lead, will that be a problem?

Pulling is very common and something I’m well experienced in managing. I’ll use appropriate equipment and calm handling techniques to manage lead-pulling safely.
I can also offer guidance on what you can do at home to work on loose-lead walking alongside walks with me.

  4. How much exercise does my dog actually need?

This varies enormously by breed, age, and health status. A Border Collie needs far more physical and mental stimulation than a Basset Hound. A puppy needs shorter, more frequent exercise than an adult dog. As a Registered Vet Nurse, I can advise on what’s appropriate for your specific dog, including how much is too much, as over-exercising, particularly in young dogs, causes long-term joint damage.

  5. Do you walk dogs in all weathers?

I will walk in most British weather! The exceptions are extreme conditions that would pose a genuine risk to your dog’s safety, such as high temperatures, severe storms, or icy conditions where the risk of injury is significant. In these cases, I will change the walk to a drop-in session, where the dog can access the garden for the toilet, and we can play inside or just cuddle on the sofa together.
