Does your pet shake their head, scratch their ears, or have a build-up of wax? Regular ear care could make all the difference.
Ear problems are among the most common health complaints, and they’re often preventable with routine cleaning. For pets in Telford and across Shropshire, Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services offers professional at-home ear cleaning, carried out by a qualified and Registered Veterinary Nurse who knows exactly what healthy and unhealthy ears look like.
As well as routine cleaning, I offer medicated ear treatment support for pets whose vets have prescribed a course of ear drops or ointment, and a structured desensitisation programme for pets who find ear handing difficult or stressful.

Why choose a Vet Nurse for ear cleaning & ear care?
As a qualified and Registered Veterinary Nurse, I don’t just clean the ears. I assess them and identify any issues, such as infection or inflammation. For pets on prescribed ear medication, accurate technique matters enormously and incorrect administration can fail to reach the affected area. I follow the treatment plan set by your vet precisely, keep detailed visit records, and liaise with your veterinary team if anything changes. Therefore, I require a veterinary referral from your vet if you wish for me to aid with prescribed medication, you can find out details on how to do this on the Veterinary Referrals page.
My clinical background also means I can confidently handle resistant or sore pets in a way that minimises further stress or injury.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my dogs ears cleaned?
This depends on breed and individual ear health. Dogs with floppy ears, those who swim regularly, or breeds prone to ear infections may benefit from cleaning every 2-4 weeks. Dogs with upright ears and no history of ear problems may only need occasional attention.
After an initial assessment, I’ll recommend the right frequency for your dog.Can you apply ear drops my vet has prescribed?
Yes, with a referral from your vet, I can administer prescribed ear drops, ointments and cleaning as part of the treatment plan. I keep detailed records of every visit and will contact your vet if I have any concerns about the treatments progress or your pets response.
My dog hates having their ears touched, can you still help?
Of course. Ear aversion is very common, particularly in dogs who’ve experienced painful ear infections. My desensitisation program uses positive, reward-based methods to gradually build your dog’s confidence with ear handling. Over several sessions, most dogs show significant improvement. This is far more effective, and kinder, than restraining a resistant dog.
What are signs my dogs has an ear infection?
Common signs include head shaking, scratching at the ear, redness or swelling inside the ear, discharge, a bad smell, or your dog appearing in pain when the ear is touched. If you notice any of these, I’d recommend contacting your vet.
Is ear cleaning safe to do at home?
Routine outer ear cleaning with an appropriate veterinary-grade cleaner is safe when done correctly. The key is to never insert anything into the ear canal (unless trained to do so), to use the right cleaner, and to recognise when a problem goes beyond routine maintenance. As a Regisitered Vet Nurse, I have the training to do this safely and to spot when veterinary attention is needed.
