Medication Support

Does your pet need regular medication that you find difficult or stressful to give at home? Giving medication to a pet, especially injections, liquids, or tablets to an uncooperative pet, can be genuinely difficult and anxiety-inducing for owners. Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services offers professional at-home medication support in Telford and across Shropshire.

With a referral and care plan from your vet, I can administer your pets medication accurately, with calm, clinical confidence. I keep detailed records and communicate with your veterinary surgeon as needed.

Why choose a Vet Nurse for medication support?

Medication errors are more common than many owners realise, and in pets with ongoing conditions, small dosing errors can have serious consequences. As a qualified and Registered Veterinary Nurse, I have extensive clinical experience administering every type of pet medication from tablets and spot-ons, to injections. I understand drug interactions, side effects to monitor for, and what to do if something looks wrong.

Every visit starts with a basic health and well-being check so I can identify any concerns. I keep detailed records and will communicate with your vet with any concerns I identify or to keep them updated on your pets progress.

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, I follow the RCVS and therefore require a referral from your vet if you require me to administer any medication. You can find out details on how to do this on the Veterinary Referrals page.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why do I need a veterinary referral for medication support?

Medication should only be administered under veterinary direction. This protects your pet and ensures every dose is part of a proper treatment plan. A referral from your vet means I know exactly what to give, when, and at what dose. It also means your vet remains in control of your pet’s treatment and can update the plan if needed.

  2. Can you give insulin injections to my diabetic dog or cat?

Yes. Insulin administration is one of the most common reasons owners seek my support due to the timing of injections. With a referral from your vet confirming the dose and schedule, I can administer the injections safely and accurately, monitor your pet’s response, and keep records of every visit. This is a great piece of mind for owners who need to be away from home longer than normal, I can do a drop-in visit to administer the insulin at the correct time.

  3. What if my pet refuses to take their medication?

I have extensive clinical experience in medication handling, including techniques for medicating resistant or stressed animals. Whether it’s disguising tablets in food, using pill poppers, or calm restraint for injections, I have the skills to administer medication effectively and safely even with an uncooperative patient.

  4. Will you keep records I can share with my vet?

Yes, I keep detailed written records of every medication visit, including date, time, dose given, and any observations about your pets behaviour, appetite, or condition. These can be shared with you and your veterinary team at any point, and are invaluable for monitoring treatment response.

  5. Can you manage medication alongside other care services like sitting or dog walking?

Of course. Medication administration can be combined with any of my other services, drop-in visits, overnight sitting, or post-operative care. This is particularly valuable for owners going on holiday who need comprehensive care including medication management.
